Kathmandu, April 17 (RSS): The 2618th birth anniversary of Mahaveer Swami, the pioneer of non-violence and the twenty-fourth ‘tirthankara’ of Jain religion was observed today, by organising various programmes.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal attended the celebrations held by Nepal Jain Parishad, the representative organisation of Jain community in Nepal, in participation of other organisations adhering to the non-violence ideology here today.
Giving his views on the occasion, the minister described Nepal as (collective) home to people following all caste, culture and customs. He said though Nepal is constitutionally a secular country, the State has owned up the responsibility of all religions and customs that have been in practice since ancient times.
India’s Ambassador for Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri was of the view that all community had equally recognised the contributions of Mahaveera to the causes of humanity.
Mahashraman’s representative Samantipragya; and Nepal Jain Parishad chair Phul Kumar Lalbani among others highlighted the contribution of Jainism to the causes of humanity.
